Glasgow ANSAR held their bi-annual 5-a-side football tournament at K7X Complex & Glasgow Green on Sunday 28th January(Adults) & Sunday 11th February (Under 16's). As with previous events, the tournament drew together the best teams from around West and Central Scotland.
This event is held regularly to increase participation in Sport and in particular to showcase Asian Talent in Football as there is a coherent lack of Professional Footballers from an Asian background. The event also increases awareness of Health issues amongst ethnic minority communities and brings together people from many diferent backgrounds under the banner of sport. This invariably tackles issues around community integration, Racism, Bigoty and Sectarianism which makes this Tournament unique and very popular.
Luckily for all the weather held out and everyone enjoyed what turned out to be competitive days where teams battled it out for the coveted crown. The tournament was organised in conjunction with Glasgow City Council and UEFA. 224 Players participated in competative games throughout the two days. Participants represented countries from around the world, including Scotland, Pakistan, India, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia.

Both Motay’s All Stars and Le Dream Team edged their semi final 2-1 to reach the final and compete for the title of Champions of Glagsow ANSAR’s challenge cup.

The final saw a classic encounter between Motay’s All Stars who beat Le Dream Team on Penalties after a memorable 4-4 draw. The Man of the tournament was Haroon Ahmed of Le Dream Team who put in a great performance throughout and was unlucky to be on the losing side in the end.

The finalists of both events will battle it out again in MAY 2007 @ George square in Glasgow City Centre with the winners receiving tickets to this years UEFA CUP FINAL at Hampden Park
