Glasgow ANSAR hosted yet another very successful 5-a-side football tournament for both under 16’s and adults.
Both events were fiercely contested but as usual there was a friendly atmosphere with no Racism, bigotry or sectarianism to be seen or heard. The groups were made prior to the tournament and some tasty groups were drawn
The under 16 final was contested by Doey’s Wee Mob and Magnificent 7 With Doey’s Wee Mob coming out as winners by 4 goals to 2 The winners received the champions cup and each player got individual trophies to remember their victory in years to come.
The adult event had two large groups so that each team would play several games throughout the day instead of just the customary 3. The top two in each group contested the semi finals and those were

The Elite
Group B
Power Rangers
Shawlands
Semi Final 1 ended up with a Penalty shoot out between The Elite and Power Rangers with Power Rangers progressing narrowly
Semi Final 2 saw Le Dream Team overhaul Shawlands by 4-0 and get through to the final comfortably
The final was played between Le Dream Team and Power Rangers. What a game it proved to be with Power Rangers looking like they had run away with it, Le dream team struck back with 2 late goals that earned themselves a penalty shoot out which they subsequently won. Congratulations to Le Dream Team who took the champions shield for the first time and good luck to everyone for the next event which should be in January 2007.
The tournament was very popular with 16 teams entering each age category and on average 7 players per team. There were many spectators who also came to support their friends. In total there were over 250 people from various communities that took part in a truly multicultural event. This is now a calendar event that people from all backgrounds look forward to months in advance. It has increased in popularity and it has churned out some young talent that have taken the game up at a higher level on a regular basis. In years to come we hope that the first Scottish BME professional footballer, would be as a result of the events and teams that we run.
