ANSAR and Lamb Curry show racism the Red Card!
Glasgow ANSAR in partnership with Show Racism the Red Card held a Multi-faith Iftari Meal on Saturday 21st October in Glasgow’s Village Curry House restaurant. The aim of the evening was to celebrate the Muslim month of fasting (Ramadan), whilst raising awareness amongst non-Muslim young people on how to combat Islamophobia in society.

Over 50 young people attended the evening from all backgrounds and faiths, and were treated to a delicious 3-course meal. Guests in attendance were Dr Anas Sarwar of the Scottish Muslim Network, Sergeant Des Fic of Strathclyde Police, and Naeem Raza of Radio Ramadhan, the latter two saying a few words to the young audience on the importance of cohesion amongst communities for the betterment of society.

Sergeant Des Fic, “I am very pleased to see so much energy here today. We can utilise that energy in a very positive way by working together to create safer communities. The work Glasgow ANSAR is doing is excellent in helping break down barriers and we extend our hand of friendship and hope to work together more closely.”

Naeem Raza, “Just like footballers use the off-season to train and prepare, we similarly need to use this blessed month of Ramadan to prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the rest of the year. That way we can help contribute towards safer communities in which we can live safely without the fear of racism or prejudice.”

All in all the food and company was excellent and was enjoyed by all. A big thank you goes to Sergeant Des Fic, Naeem Raza and Dr Anas Sarwar for taking time out to attend. To Kashif Baig and the rest of the staff at Village Curry House for the excellent culinary experience! To Show Racism the Red Card for their financial assistance and general support they have shown over the years, and finally to all the Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, Catholic and Protestant young people who attended without whom this event wouldn’t have been possible.
