| Awards Night 2005-2006 |
Glasgow ANSAR held their annual Awards Dinner in the plush surroundings of Village Curry House on 1st August. It was a perfect and relaxing ending to another successful but tough season that had its fair share of highs and lows. With ANSAR just missing out on promotion to the First Division of the Glasgow Central Football League by a 1-0 loss to GCBP, club manager Zubair Malik has insisted that despite victories in the Scottish Unity League Cup and in the All Nations Cup promotion in the upcoming season is a must. “Winning cups every season is great but the league title must be our top priority.”
However one such individual in his first full season in ANSAR colours walked away with the club’s highest award. Haroon Ahmed or Potter as he is affectionately known to his friends won the Player’s Player of the Season award after receiving the highest number of votes from his team-mates. He said after picking up his trophy, “this is really special because I was voted by those players who I look up to and have admired for the past few years. I hope to continue playing well for ANSAR and Inshallah (God-willing) win more with the club in the years ahead.”
Other winners on the night included Rayhan Mansur who received the Goal of the Season award for his winning goal in the Scottish Unity League Cup final against Unreal Madrid and Zeshan Ali winning the Golden Boot for being the club’s highest goal-scorer for the 2005/2006 season with 34 goals.
